What are Certified Tarrant County Master Gardeners?

  • Community educators trained through the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.

  • They share science-based gardening know-how with local residents.

  • They inspire, teach, and connect people through hands-on horticulture education.

Join a team that grows knowledge and community—one garden at a time!

What Do Master Gardeners Do?

  • Lead gardening classes and workshops for all skill levels.

  • Speak at community events, clubs, and garden shows.

  • Staff ask-a-gardener booths at Mayfest, the Fort Worth Stock Show, and more.

  • Mentor school garden clubs and youth programs.

  • Help create and maintain community gardens.

  • Care for public gardens like McFarland House, Molly Hollar Wildscape, and the Fort Worth Botanical Garden.

Your passion for plants can bloom into community impact.

 If you answered “yes” to most of these—this program is calling your name!

How to Become Certified

  1. Background Check – Completed after acceptance; renewed every 3 years.

  2. Training – 12-week program (Feb–Apr), Tuesdays & Thursdays, 9 am–4 pm. Expert-led lessons + field trips. Topics include plant development, soils, plant care, landscape design, tree selection and care, plant diseases, pest management, and more.

  3. Volunteer Hours – 72 in the first year; 36 annually thereafter.

  4. Meetings – Attend at least 3 monthly TCMGA meetings.

  5. Exam – Open-book test at the end of training.

  6. Certification – Awarded upon meeting all requirements.

  7. Cost – $350 for training; $12 for background check; $33 annual dues after certification.

  • Join an Orientation Zoom – Ask questions, get details, decide if it’s for you.

  • Apply Online or by Mail – Quick, simple, and secure.

  • Interview in Person – Meet the team and share your gardening story.

  • Get Your Acceptance – Then get ready to grow!
