Project Description

The Begonia Collection at the Fort Worth Botanical Garden is the largest collection of begonias in the United States and a Recognized Collection by the National Association of Public Gardens. The collection contains more than 3000 species and hybrid consisting of 1500 taxa (named varieties).  All eight types of begonias - rhizomatous, cane-like, shrub-like, trailing-scandent, tuberous, thick-stemmed, semperflorens and rex begonias are represented.

In 2008, the Collection became a Master Gardener Project with just two MG volunteers but 4-5 volunteers from the community.  Under Debbie Garrett, the Curator, the Collection grew extensively and moved to the Conservation Greenhouse in November of 2024 located on the southwest side of the garden.

Volunteers groom, water and repot, propagate new plants, make labels, take inventory, wash pots and give tours.
